Slow patterns are textiles created by Meyers & Fügmann whose pattern changes through exposure to sunlight. The textiles’ light-responsive technology combines two different yarns. Over time, the naturallydyed colours become faint while the stable synthetic colours retain their colour, creating a unique painting made by light. The concept highlights the emotional relationship people experience towards objects. The ageing process is designed into the product, fostering a debate about sustainability and the relationship we have with our belongings. Both owner and object age, side-by-side. While the sustainability debate is focused on using less or creating less environmentally harmful materials we encourage longevity and fight psychological obsolescence through making time tangible.
