Digital Felts

Jessica Farmer
Mentor: Prof. Prof. Christiane Sauer

Digital Felts was born out of the desire to find a use for local coarse wool that makes sense.
Coarse wool, a byproduct of sheep farming currently disposed of in large quantities, is naturally suited for acoustic and thermal applications.
Digital tools and scripts are used to bring precision and programmability to the ancient craft of felting. They allow for a variety of select material properties and patterns to be showcased across a single felted surface.
Through a collaborative design process, Digital Felts are fabricated to create highly customizable acoustic surfaces tailored to specific spacial contexts, such as homes and offices.
