The second topic is “Circularity”

Don’t you feel that the transition from linear to circular economy is accelerating? Maybe you also think twice before buying or before throwing away. Maybe you started to experiment already and create your products with a cradle-to-cradle principle in mind. It’s wonderful! Because this is how we feel and act, too. Therefore, we would like to dwell a little bit on this topic at the Design Impact Conference.

On Isabel Ordoñez and Circular Berlin:
Isabel Ordoñez is currently conducting her post-doctoral research and acts as a project manager for CURE - Centres for Urban Re-manufacture, Technical University of Berlin. In her work she particularly focuses on sustainable design and topics such as waste recovery and renewable energy sources. At Design Impact she will elaborate the notion of Circular Economy and speak about the levels of actions for circularity.

Circular Berlin is a network of professionals and organizations, working together to accelerate Berlin’s transition to a circular city. Currently, Circular Berlin is expanding their reach through community-building, education, project development, research as well as developing a local circular economy agenda.

On Youyang Song, Youyang Song Material Innovation:
Youyang Song is an enormously industrious and creative designer who experiments with a variety of materials. What started as cooking trials in her own kitchen, is now evolving into bio-materials and -products relevant for today's industrial context where we can no longer pollute but have to re-think, re-design and degrade.

Youyang Song Material Innovation acts as a lifestyle guide for those who want to enjoy their products with a full respect to the environment.

The first topic is “New Work”

Introduced in the 70s the idea of „New Work“ or „new understanding of our relationship to work“ has been pursued on various levels. Technological developments reinforced this trend and opened up new possibilities for numerous professions.
At Design Impact we would like to show you how this topic is currently tackled in the companies like IXDS and also to make a deep dive with The Good Tools into the filed of tools that enable new ways of working.

On IXDS:
IXDS is one of the leading innovation agencies in Germany and a „New Work“ pioneer. Agile work, participation and transparency have been lived here since its foundation and a four-day week for everyone has been part of everyday life since the beginning. Partners from the most different areas profit from these experiences as well as compile and introduce „New Work“ principles in their enterprises in cooperation with IXDS.

On Elevation:
Anouk Hoffmeister has been doing her research on collaborative tools for several years within the Excellence Cluster „Image. Knowledge. Design.“ She observed: there are many tools on the market but still they are not good enough to shape our thinking complexity and to involve others into this process. So this is how Elevation was born. Anouk rolled up her sleeves and started creating her vision of „New Work“.

This Friday, 1.11.2019, STATE Studio will open LICHTFELDER exhibition- an artistic scientific reflection on the topic "light" in Berlin. The focus is on the ongoing, joint development work with the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOF as part of the residency program of the Fraunhofer Network for Science, Art, and Design.

Furthermore: we are among the winners of the International Light Art Award and our room installation "Negative Space" can be seen until November 10th at the Center for International Light Art in Unna.

Berlin-based Song developed a fully biodegradable leather using banana and orange peel, or soy milk, in combination with a natural binding agent. Manufacturing options such as laser cutting, dyeing and printing and 3D printing and modelling pave the way for the material – which is comparable in durability and water resistance to animal leather – to be used for a wide range of design possibilities and new commercial products.

Last Thursday, we had our first Farmer picnic. After 6 rounds of support, it was time to call all generations of Farmers together to celebrate, network and share experiences. A great evening with many Farmers and everything else that is important: pizza, beer, and music from Dadamachines and Composer.
