Design Impact Conference: Joining Forces for Digital and Material Innovations

28 March 2023, 3.30pm - 8pm

»Stadtwerkstatt«, Karl-Liebknecht-Straße 11, 10178 Berlin, close to Alexanderplatz

The step from prototype to production is often a challenge. Especially when criteria such as resource-, energy- and more-than-human—friendly processes and consumption are the guiding design parameters. This requires a diversity of expertise and more knowledge exchange between science, industry and politics. Against this background, DesignFarm Berlin invites you to the Design Impact Conference: Current startups present their latest digital, material-based and textile innovations and discuss their results with various practitioners and stakeholders.

Program

15:00  Open doors

15:30 - 15:45 - Welcome and Introduction by Prof. Carola Zwick and Birgit Effinger

Sessions:

15:45 - 16:30 - New Partnerships needed - Digital Innovation (in German)

The panel explores how new digital infrastructures and services can help to tackle today's social and environmental challenges in decreasing CO2 consumption, blind spots in healthcare or mobility.

Presentations of DesignFarm ventures:
WeRide, SymbioticLab and IndustrialCraft
Open discussion with Prof. Nils Krüger (Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin) and Hannes Nützmann (Co-Founder and CPO Ceezer)

16:45 - 17:30 - From Lab to Market: Material Innovations (in English)

Today, many new biopolymer and biodegradable materials are being developed and prototyped. In this panel we will discuss how material designers and scientists manage the balancing act between their customers' expectations and current industrial constraints. And what helped them keep going and take the first steps to market.

Presentations of DesignFarm ventures:
flower-matter, PassTheBone and superwood
Open discussion with Dr. Khashayar Razghandi (Matters of Activity) and Peter Putsch (RUBIO Bündnis für nachwachsende Kunststoffe, Polykum e.V.) and peelsphere

17:45 - 18:30 - Soft Power: Textile Innovations (in English)

Fiber-based and textile technologies are key to innovation in the architecture and fashion markets. The panel will discuss solutions for the reuse of pre- and post-consumer waste, as well as local approaches for resource-efficient production with low logistics costs to (re)produce longevity and thus avoid the growing textile waste streams.

Presentations of DesignFarm ventures:
SecondaryRaw, DigitalFelts and MeyersFuegmann
Open discussion with Prof. Dr. Lucy Norris (Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin) and Case Studies

18:30 - Wrap up: Closing notes

18:45 - 20:00 Beer & Pretzel - Networking
